About

A practitioner who teaches.

Senior Data Analyst & APAC Lead · JLL Technologies

I'm Clarence Tan, and I've spent around a decade working in data — across major banks and a global technology company — turning messy, multi-source data into decisions leaders can act on with Python, SQL, BigQuery, Teradata and Power BI. Just as importantly, I've spent those years translating technical work into plain language for the business people who rely on it.

I hold a Master's in IT in Business (Analytics) and a Bachelor of Accountancy, both from Singapore Management University — so I understand both the engineering behind the data and the business questions it needs to answer. I now bring that hands-on, in-the-trenches experience to training working professionals to become confident and capable with data and AI — not from a textbook, but from doing the job every day.

  • ~10 years of hands-on data experience across banking & tech
  • Senior Data Analyst & APAC Lead at JLL Technologies
  • MSc IT in Business (Analytics) & BAcc, Singapore Management University
  • Python, SQL, BigQuery, Teradata, Power BI & data visualisation
  • Skilled at making technical concepts land with non-technical audiences
Selected work
  • Strengthened portfolio & scenario planning at a global technology company — as business SME, using BigQuery, SQL and Python to turn backend data into reliable strategic reporting, while improving data-quality checks.
  • Delivered an end-to-end customer-analytics reporting pipeline at a major bank — with Teradata SQL, Python and Power BI — letting product managers surface insights, monitor trends and plan data-driven campaigns.
  • Accelerated ETL data migration at a major bank — automating metadata prep in Python and building SQL-based ETL pipelines for structured extraction, transformation and migration across systems.
What you'll master

For teams

Custom training for your organisation.

The public courses are a starting point. For teams, I build a programme around your tools, your data and the problems you're actually trying to solve — delivered on your schedule, in-house or online.

  • Curriculum tailored to your workflows, tools and skill levels
  • Taught on your own data, so people apply it the next day
  • Your choice of format — full-day intensives or weekly sessions
  • In-house, at your office, or live online for distributed teams
  • Mix and match across all nine courses into one pathway
  • Invoiced to your organisation, with documentation for L&D

Let's scope it together.

Tell me your team's size, tools and goals — I'll come back with a tailored outline and a quote. No obligation.

Is this right for you?

A different shape to a bootcamp.

Full career-change bootcamps are excellent if you want to switch careers over several months. This is built for a different need.

A full bootcamp

Career change, all-in

  • Long: often 120–400 hours over 3–6 months
  • One big commitment, many tools bundled together
  • Built to switch into a new data career
  • Career services, capstones, cohort intensity
This

One skill at a time, around your job

  • Short: 12–18 hours per course, weekly or as full days
  • Take just the skill you need — or stack a pathway
  • Built for people already in a job who want to level up
  • Taught by a working practitioner, on real data

Neither is "better" — they solve different problems. If you want to change careers, a full bootcamp may fit you well. If you want to get sharper at the parts of your job that touch data, without stepping away from it, that's what these courses are for.

Ways to work together

Train your team. Or let's build it together.

Questions

Before you book.

Do I need a maths or coding background?
No. The Data Foundations and Visualisation & Storytelling tracks assume nothing beyond basic spreadsheet use — we start from where you are. Only the Python & AI track benefits from a little prior comfort with logic, and even then it's taught from the ground up.
Which track should my team start with?
If your team lives in spreadsheets and does manual reporting, start with Data Foundations. If they already query data and need better dashboards, go straight to Visualisation & Storytelling. Teams wanting automation and AI on top take Python & AI. Not sure? Tell me what you do in the enquiry form and I'll recommend one honestly.
Can you run this privately for my team?
Yes — most engagements are private cohorts run on your own tools and data, with the curriculum adapted to your workflows and security constraints. Public scheduled cohorts are also available for individuals.
Online or in person?
Both. In-person works best for the build-heavy sessions, but the full curriculum runs live online for distributed teams. Sessions are hands-on either way — you build alongside me, you don't just watch.
How long are the courses?
Each course runs as a small part-time cohort — a weekly live session (around 3 hours) over roughly 4–6 weeks, so you never have to step away from work. Courses range from 4 to 6 sessions (12–18 hours). Take one, or stack a pathway to go deeper.
How are courses scheduled?
Courses run as small part-time cohorts — a weekly live session over about 4–6 weeks. Exact dates and timings aren't published yet; register interest in a course and you'll be notified as soon as a cohort opens. Registering also helps trigger the next cohort and lets me pick timings that suit those on the list.
Can I take a course as a full day instead of weekly?
Yes. Every course comes in two formats for the same total hours: a part-time cohort (a weekly live session over 4–6 weeks) or a full-day intensive (the same content condensed into full days — usually 2–3 days). Full-day works especially well for corporate teams who'd rather block out the time. Tell me your preferred format when you register interest.
What if I miss a session?
Sessions are recorded, so you can catch up and revise anytime during the course.
What do participants walk away with?
A working project built during the course — a dashboard, query set or automation on real data — plus reusable templates (Excel models, SQL snippets, DAX patterns, a prompt library), the session recordings, and post-course support. No paper certificate — you leave with real skills and something you built.
Is corporate training claimable or invoiced?
Corporate engagements are invoiced to your organisation, and I can provide the documentation your finance or L&D team needs.
